NECK, BACK & SPINE

Acute vs. Chronic Pain...
Acute pain lasts for a short time (usually up to 6 weeks), subacute pain can last 4-12 weeks, while chronic pain persists for longer than 3 months. The neck, back, and spine are very susceptible to injury, degeneration, and pain from injuries, pinched nerves, and herniated discs to spinal fractures and conditions such as arthritis and spondylolisthesis. The spine supports most of your body’s weight and movement, while the neck is the most flexible and mobile section of the spine. Pain can manifest as a dull ache, sharp pain, stiffness, or even radiating pain into the arms or legs, and may be accompanied by numbness, tingling, or weakness. Treatment typically involves a combination of self-care measures, physical therapy, and, in some cases, medication or injections. The primary goal of physical therapy is to restore function, relieve pain, and improve a patient's quality of life.

Did you know?
That 50 million adults experienced chronic pain and 20 million were afflicted with high-impact chronic pain that interfered with life or work activities. There have been 3 in 5 adults who experienced pain of any kind in a 3-month period. The incidence of pain increased with age and was highest among adults aged 65 and over.
