A Multifaceted Approach
At Snow Sport and Spine, our aim is to help your brain heal while managing any post-concussion symptoms you may be experiencing.
We understand that every patient is unique, which is why we tailor each treatment to address the specific physical, emotional, and cognitive impairments a client may be facing.
Our approach to treatment involves multiple modalities that work together to resolve trauma patterns and improve neuronal speed, efficiency and blood flow to the brain. By addressing these symptoms from multiple angles, we help the brain begin to heal and improve post-concussion symptoms.
Treatment Modalities:
Vestibular and oculomotor exercises
Manual therapy
Cardiovascular exercises
Cervical stretches and stabilization
Education and problem solving

Vestibular and Oculomotor

When recovering from a concussion, targeted vestibular and oculomotor exercises can aid in healing of the brain. These exercises help to improve the communication between the brain, eyes, inner ear and associated muscles and nerves. (fig. 1)
By doing so, they can reduce concussion symptoms and facilitate a safe return to work, school, and sports. We understand how challenging it can be to deal with the effects of a concussion. That's why our team is here to support you through your journey to recovery.
Manual Therapy

Manual therapy techniques are utilized to reduce and eliminate pain in the neck, upper back, face, as well as headaches and head pressure.
We employ a range of interventions to ensure optimal results, including:
Cranial mobilization
Neural mobilizations
Muscle energy technique
Strain counter-strain
Myofascial release

Cardiovascular

Throughout the stages of recovery, cardiovascular exercise can be beneficial as it improves blood flow to the brain which can facilitate the healing process. In cases of physical or cognitive fatigue, we often recommend short sessions of cardiovascular exercise, such as walking or gentle stretches.

Our exertion program is designed to gradually introduce an increased workload to your cardiovascular system. This can help patients who experience symptoms during or after exercise, or who are having problems with autonomic nervous system control.

Cervical/Stabilization Exercises

Often with whiplash-type injuries, the muscle of the cervical spine need re-education to return to their normal function. (fig. 2)

Exercises can help relieve neck pain and headaches caused by the cervical spine muscles. An exercise regime is learned in the clinic and then given as a home exercise program to help relieve symptoms between visits.

Education and Problem Solving

Since no two concussions are the same, we tailor our client and caregiver education towards our patient’s specific symptoms and challenges. We provide education on task modifications, beneficial exposure and recovery to stimulation and what types of active recovery may be appropriate. As patients have fewer symptoms, we guide them through safely returning to activities they enjoy.

We have many tools to support a patient’s recovery and we look forward to doing some of the cognitive heavy lifting to make your recovery easier while navigating life.
