The largest muscle in your body that allows extension and lateral flexion of the spine.  (fig. 1)

A posturally short and tight latissimus dorsi has increased thoracic kyphosis and a tendency for a forward placed head. There is lumbar lordosis with a compressive force on the spine. (fig. 2)

One of our favorite latissimus stretches is to reach your left arm across your body and place it on the mat. Continue to slide your left arm forward for a stretch along the outside of your arm and upper back. Hold for 30 seconds. (fig. 3)
